John Brimacombe
John has been a venture partner at Sussex Place Ventures since returning from the US in 2005 where he was COO of Hands-On Mobile, a major venture-backed mobile content delivery technology and publishing business with worldwide operations. He is also Chairman of Linguamatics, a provider of advanced knowledge discovery tools to the Pharmaceuticals sector. John previously founded Jobstream Group Plc, a software business serving the institutional offshore finance market. John has an MA in Law and Diploma in computer science from Trinity College, Cambridge.
Tim Bullock
Tim Bullock spent 26 years working in leading banks, with 14 years as a Managing Director with Lloyds TSB. Since 2005 Tim has focussed on his personal business and investment interests, co-founding New Wave Ventures in 2010. He leads New Wave’s investment process and serves as a director of its portfolio companies across a range of industry sectors. Tim aims to spread learning and best practice across the New Wave portfolio companies.
John Gonzalez, Chairman
Dr Gonzalez joined Endomagnetics from Alice Ventures (Italy, UK) where he was the Life Sciences Partner from 1999. Prior to his successful investment career with Alice Ventures, he was in charge of European business development for both PowderJect Pharmaceuticals and SmithKline Beecham. He holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Manchester.
Simon Hattersley, Founder, Chief Designer
Simon has a Cambridge Physics background, and over 25 years’ experience designing systems, electronics and embedded software for advanced instruments. Simon devised the principles of operation of the SentiMag®, and is in charge of the technical development of its systems.
Jonny Laughton
Jonny, Partner at Sarum Capital, has over 15 years experience in working in, and helping to establish, high growth technology businesses in the UK. He has experience investing in early and mid-stage biotech, technology and cleantech and was previously a Director and part of the Executive team at Star and MessageLabs.
Eric Mayes, CEO
Dr Mayes joined Endomagnetics from Cambridge Display Technology where he was Director of Commercial Development. He has more than 10 years experience in advanced materials and devices businesses and a strong track record in leading early-stage ventures, including his role as CEO of NanoMagnetics. For his role in NanoMagnetics, he was named the Royal Society of Chemistry’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2003′. Eric has a BSc in Physics from Arkansas State University and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath.
Quentin Pankhurst, Founder, CTO
Prof. Pankhurst is Professor Physics at University College London (a world top-10 rated institution) and Director of the Davy-Faraday Research Laboratories at the Royal Institution of Great Britain. He runs internationally leading research programs aimed at making practical advances in the use of magnetics in healthcare, and works closely with industry on such matters. Born in New Zealand, he came to the UK in 1983 to study solid state physics at the University of Liverpool, where he stayed until joining UCL in 1994.
Steven Schooling
Dr Schooling is Director of Engineering & Physical Sciences at UCL Business and is responsible for knowledge transfer activities across the faculties of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Science and the Built Environment at UCL. He has significant experience of early stage technology commercialisation within a research-led university, having developed successful spin-off companies and executed licensing agreements in sectors ranging from telecommunications through to oil & gas and medical imaging. He is currently a director of six UCL spinout companies and represents UCL’s interests in an IT-focused seed stage investment fund.
